Abstract
Communication is the indispensable means of connection for human beings, who are social creatures. As ancient as the history of humanity itself, communication has appeared in diverse forms across the ages. Its essential nature for humans has allowed researchers to critically examine it. One such investigation is the Johari Window Model, developed by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham—its name derived from a combination of their first names. According to this model, an individual's scope of knowledge and perception is assessed across four areas: the open area, the blind area, the hidden area, and the unknown area. The open area comprises information and perceptions known both to the individual and to others; the hidden area encompasses what the individual knows but others do not know; the blind area refers to what others know but the individual does not; and the unknown area represents information unknown to both the individual and others.
This research analyzes the 2010 British film The King’s Speech through the framework of the Johari Window Model. A qualitative research method, namely “document analysis,” was employed, and in the data collection phase, the “document review” technique was preferred. The findings obtained suggest that this analysis of the film will contribute to a deeper understanding of the concept of communication.
